A list of the books that I like/recommend.

General Fiction

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
I first read this book when I was 11. I found it pretty amazing back then and when I picked up a copy recently I still found it impressive. The story focuses on a girl named Francie as she grows up in the slums of Brooklyn.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
This one I read when I was about 14. I remember feeling as if I've gone to a completely different world whenever I was immersed in this book. Absolutely fantastic.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodie Picoult
One of the books that I've recently come across. It's got quite a surprising twist in the end. It's about a girl named Anna who was born primarily to save her sister who's dying of leukemia.

The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho
I've been hearing about this book from friends so I decided to satisfy my curiosity and read it. It's packed with little 'wisdoms' that make you think, but doesn't require a degree in Philosophy to actually figure out what it means. Very beautiful.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
I've never come across something like this one before. It made me think of what death could really be like and the way I treat people and the things I do while I'm still living.

Biography/Auto-biography

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
I must've read this one a thousand times now. For me, this one's a laugh-out-loud and cry-your-eyes-out book. Simply fantastic. Although I must admit, the sequel to it was a let down.

Fantasy/Science Fiction

Lost in A Good Book by Jasper Fforde
Second installation of Fforde's Thursday Next series. Makes me want to have a pet dodo. Haha!

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Another genius. He created The Sandman. This book is like a really twisted Alice in Wonderland. Very cool.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
My most favourite Gaiman masterpiece. To describe it any further would do it injustice. Just go read it!

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
This guy is a genius. His heroine, Thursday Next, can jump in and out of books and interact with the characters. Fantastic read. Plus, it comes in a series, which I have a thing for.

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
My favourite among the series so far. I believe it's the beginning of Rowling's killing spree. Heh.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
A really good fantasy series that you can sink your teeth into. Kind of repetitive at times, but still has its own completely different world. I envy Goodkind's imagination.

Crime/Thriller
1st to Die by James Patterson
First crime/thriller book that I've read that didn't manage to send me off to la-la land. It was a real page turner.
